Items and Equipment Guide
Equipment is one of the main ways to make Mercenaries stronger in Loot of Baal. You mainly get equipment by defeating enemies, but it's also possible to get it from the vendor or trade with other player in online mode.
Check out other Loot of Baal Guides for more info.
Equipment Quality[edit source]
All equipment in the game is divided into **seven quality tiers**, listed from lowest to highest:
- Common (Black)
- Uncommon (Light Blue)
- Magic (Dark Blue)
- Rare (Yellow)
- Set (Green)
- Legendary (Red)
- Crafted (Orange)
Quality Breakdown[edit source]
- Common (Black)
- Very low chance to have affixes, at most one.
- Can be used to craft Rune Word weapons.
- Uncommon (Light Blue)
- Higher chance to have affixes (1–4 possible).
- Also valid for crafting Rune Word weapons.
- Magic (Dark Blue)
- Moderate-high affix chance (1–4 affixes).
- Can be reforged and used in crafting powerful weapons.
- Rare (Yellow)
- Guaranteed affixes (2–7).
- Can be reforged and upgraded in the Crafting Table.
- Set (Green)
- Comes with fixed affixes.
- Grants unique bonuses when wearing multiple pieces from the same set.
- Legendary (Red)
- Named unique equipment with fixed affixes.
- Affix values may vary within a set range.
- Crafted (Orange)
- Created using Magic-quality gear and materials via the Crafting Table.
- Represents the highest tier of equipment in the game.
Tip: You can judge item quality directly by looking at its color in your inventory.
Quality affects multiple aspects including stats and affix potential. It's generally recommended to salvage or sell lower-quality gear and keep higher-quality ones.
Equipment Grades[edit source]
In addition to quality, all equipment also has a hidden grade prefix. To view an item's grade, press ALT while hovering over it in your inventory.
Current grades include:
- Basic
- Advanced
- Elite
The higher the grade, the greater the item’s potential.
Sealed Equipment[edit source]
Sealed gear has a special prefix: Sealed.
- Sealed items have higher stats than their regular counterparts.
- Some affixes specifically provide bonuses to Sealed items, but these bonuses only apply if the gear has the Sealed prefix natively.
Equipment Affixes[edit source]
Each type of equipment pulls from a unique affix pool. When items drop, the system randomly assigns affixes from that pool.
Items may also receive **prefixes** and **suffixes** that appear before and after their name:
For example: Will of Amber Jawbone Cap
- Jawbone Cap – item name
- Will of – suffix
- Amber – prefix
Suffixes always end with "of", and prefixes always end with 's or an adjective
Prefix & Suffix Effects[edit source]
- Prefixes and suffixes provide additional affixes.
- Example:
* Will of → grants +4 Energy * Amber → grants +9% Lightning Resistance
Affix bonuses vary within a range:
- Will of may give +4 to +6 Energy, for instance.
Each item type has a distinct affix pool.
- Most affixes are restricted by item level.
- For example, the suffix Will of only appears on items level 7 or above.
An item’s full affix set consists of:
- Its base stat pool
- Optional prefix
- Optional suffix
Affix Modification[edit source]
- Affixes can be changed via Reforging, but only for **Magic** and **Rare** items.
- Inlaying Gems or Runes can also add new affix effects.
- Following a Rune Word recipe exactly can grant powerful fixed affixes.
→ For more info, see Rune Words Guide.
Equipping Gear Without Required Stats[edit source]
Early in the game, players may find powerful gear that they cannot equip due to Strength or other stat requirements.
Workaround:
- Equip temporary gear that grants bonus stats (e.g., Strength).
- Equip the desired gear once stat requirements are met.
- Then remove the temporary stat-boosting gear.
Once equipped, the item will remain on your character even if your base stats no longer meet its requirements.
