Sockets and Runewords Guide
This guide will help you understanding the Socket mechanics in Loot of Baal. You can socket Gems or Jewels in the Equipment. Socketing unlocks with the Blacksmith; you won't be able to use sockets before that.
Check out other Loot of Baal Guides for more info.
To access the Socket system, open the system menu at the bottom-left and select Socket. This feature has two main functions:
Basic Socketing[edit source]
The simplest use is to insert Gems or Jewels into equipment to gain corresponding effects.
- Drag a piece of equipment into the equipment slot located in the bottom-right of the Socket screen.
- Then, drag a gem from your warehouse into one of the available sockets on the right side of the gear.
Note:
- Different gear types have different numbers of available sockets.
- Gems and Jewels mostly drop from combat stages.
- Some maps feature special stages specifically for farming gems and jewels.
Rune Words[edit source]
On the Socket page, click the feather pen icon to the left of the equipment panel to view your currently unlocked Rune Words.
Rune Words can be purchased from the Alchemist in town, but require a certain amount of reputation to unlock.
After purchasing a Rune Word, you must first activate it by clicking Use in your Gem Storage. Only then will the Rune Word become available in the Socket interface.
Once unlocked, select a Rune Word on the left panel to view its recipe. Based on the required weapon type and the listed runes, you can craft a weapon with a fixed effect.
Important Notes:
- Rune Words can only be applied to equipment of Normal or Fine quality.
- The order of runes must exactly match the recipe listed for the Rune Word.
- The final attributes of the crafted item are heavily influenced by the base quality of the gear — higher-tier gear (e.g., Extended grade) will yield significantly better stats than lower-tier gear.
Crafting System & Crafting Recipes[edit source]
To access the crafting system, open the system menu from the bottom-left and click on Crafting Table. Initially, there are three types of crafting available:
- Accessory Crafting
- Gem Upgrading
- Rune Upgrading
Accessory Crafting[edit source]
You can combine three Magic Rings or three Magic Amulets to create a new piece of equipment.
Gem Upgrading[edit source]
You can upgrade gems by combining three of the same kind to get a higher-tier gem:
- 3 Chipped Gems → 1 Flawed Gem
- 3 Flawed Gems → 1 Normal Gem
- 3 Normal Gems → 1 Flawless Gem
- 3 Flawless Gems → 1 Perfect Gem
How to Craft[edit source]
The crafting process is simple:
- Select the desired crafting type.
- Drag the required item(s) into the grid.
- Add the necessary materials according to the system prompt.
Even if a recipe is not unlocked, as long as the player knows the correct combination, placing the correct materials into the crafting slots will produce the item.
Basic materials include:
- Gems
- Runes
- Crafting materials obtained from dismantling equipment
Some late-game recipes require special materials found in advanced story stages.
Advanced Crafting Features[edit source]
Later in the game, the following features will unlock:
- Manual crafting of gear
- Adding sockets to equipment
- Removing inlaid runes
- Reforging magic/rare gear
- Upgrading item quality
Socketing Gear[edit source]
The number of sockets added depends on gear quality and is random (typically 2–4 sockets).
Tip: Place the target gear into the crafting slot. If the button says "Supplement", the system is not ready to craft. You’ll need to select the appropriate crafting type on the left first, then use the "One-click Supplement" button to auto-fill materials. Finally, replace the placeholder gear with your target item.
Removing Inlaid Runes[edit source]
This will remove all runes from the selected gear.
- The rune effects will disappear.
- If the item had a Rune Word, both the rune bonuses and the Rune Word effect will be lost.
- The gear’s quality will revert from Legendary to its original base quality.
Reforging Equipment[edit source]
Only gear of Magic or Rare quality can be reforged. Reforging changes:
- The gear’s base stats
- Its affix properties
