Mercenary System Guide

From Loot of Baal Wiki and Guides

Mercenaries are characters that fight for you in Loot of Baal. This Guide will cover Mercenary hiring mechanics and will provide some tips on which mercenaries to go for.

Check out other Loot of Baal Guides for more info.

Unlocking Mercenaries[edit source]

To access the Mercenary system, you must first clear the stage Firwood. Once unlocked, click the Tavern icon in the System Menu to open the details page.

Recruitment Process[edit source]

  • Spend Recruitment Scrolls to refresh the list of available mercenaries.
  • Click a mercenary portrait and pay gold to recruit them.
  • Recruitment scrolls can be obtained by clearing stages.

Mercenary Grades[edit source]

Mercenaries come in five quality grades:

  • D
  • C
  • B
  • A
  • S

Higher-grade mercenaries have better base attributes and more powerful skill combinations.

Skill Info[edit source]

Each mercenary has two fixed, randomly rolled skills. These skills cannot be changed later, so skill combination is crucial. Skill frames indicate rarity.

Tip: Always aim to recruit mercs with optimal skill synergy — this determines their potential power ceiling!

Deploying Mercenaries[edit source]

Open the Party Management page in the System Menu.

  • At the top, select one of the three party slots.
  • Use the blue button next to each mercenary to **add or remove** them from your active party.

Skill Types and Damage Scaling[edit source]

Mercenary skills fall into two categories, each with distinct damage formulas:

Weapon-Based Skills[edit source]

These scale with weapon stats and have no base damage themselves. Damage is calculated from weapon stats and various percentage bonuses.

  • Can trigger elemental damage.
  • Elemental resistances of the enemy are calculated separately and applied to final damage.

Damage Formula:

Final Damage = (Main Hand Weapon Damage + Off-Hand Weapon Damage / 2 + Flat Bonus Damage) × (1 + Percent Bonus from Gear + Skill % Bonus + STR/100 × STR Coef + AGI/100 × AGI Coef) × (1 - Target Damage Reduction) × (1 - Target Elemental Resistance)

• Weapon Damage = Base Weapon Damage × (1 + Weapon % Bonus) + Flat Weapon Bonus • Damage Reduction = Defense / (Defense + 2000) • Crits double the final damage.

Spell-Based Skills[edit source]

  • Have built-in high numerical damage
  • Max level is 40
  • Damage scales with skill level
  • Cannot trigger on-hit effects like lifesteal or bonus damage

Spell Formula:

Final Damage = Skill Damage × (1 + Bonus Amplifiers) × (100 - Enemy Resistance) / 10000

Unlocking Higher-Grade Mercs[edit source]

Mercenary recruitment is unlocked in stages:

  • Clear Firwood → Unlock D & C grade mercs
  • Clear Nameless Cemetery – Floor 1 → Unlock B grade mercs
  • Clear Twisted Quicksand → Unlock A grade mercs
  • Reach Dargu Camp (Snow Mountain Region) → Unlock S grade mercs

Recommended Party Composition[edit source]

Ideal team setup:

  • Berserker – High single-target DPS
  • Mage – AoE damage
